![]() Leukotriene Modifiers Leukotriene modifiers are one of the newer classes of drugs for the treatment of asthma. Leukotrienes are chemicals that are released during inflammation. They help to maintain inflammation, increase the production of mucus, and contribute to swelling in the lungs. Individuals who have asthma are more sensitive to the effects of leukotrienes than people without asthma.
