Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition where the prostate grows in size but the growth is not considered cancerous. It is normal for the prostate to grow in size as a man ages past 40 (women do not have a prostate gland). As the prostate grows, it can affect the outward flow of urine from the bladder. This can cause symptoms such as frequency of urination, difficulty urinating, and increased urination at night. Take the following questionnaire to see if you might have any symptoms that are associated with BPH.
This questionnaire - called the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) - was developed by a committee of the American Urological Association (source: J Urol 1992 Nov;148(5):1549-57). Answer each of the following seven questions with the response that best applies to you.
