Alpha 4 Beta 2 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Agonist
Varenicline can reduce the symptoms caused by stopping smoking. It can also decrease the urge to smoke and decrease nicotine cravings. It is thought that varenicline blocks the effects of nicotine on certain chemicals in the brain that cause the feeling of reward and reinforcement experienced upon smoking. By blocking these chemicals, the reward and pleasure of smoking is also blocked.
