Theophyllines
Theophyllines appear to widen airways by relaxing the smooth muscles surrounding the airways.
Theophylline is also used as a long-acting bronchodilator to prevent COPD symptoms. Taken orally as tablets, capsules, or liquids, theophylline is available in immediate-release and controlled-release formulations as well as injection (aminophylline).
