Biologic Response Modifiers

Biologics are the newest medications to be approved for the treatment of psoriasis. This group includes alefacept (Amevive) and efalizumab (Raptiva), which are believed to work by blocking and reducing certain cells in the body?s defense system (immune system) that are thought to play an important role in the development of psoriasis. These medications are available in injectable form only. Other biologics such as etanercept (Enbrel) and infliximab (Remicade) can sometimes be used to treat psoriatic arthritis.
