Mukolytics

By thinning the abnormally thick mucus secretions that CF patients produce, mucus-thinning drugs, often called mucolytics, help patients cough up (expectorate) any mucus that may prevent the patient from breathing normally. A decreased amount of thick mucus may help prevent CF patients from developing lung infections.
