Anticonvulsants

Anticonvulsants are used principally to prevent seizures in patient with epilepsy, but they can also be used as pain relievers for conditions such as postherpatic neuralgia (PHN). Although some side effects (such as drowsiness and fatigue) are associated with the use of these drugs, they seem to be very effective in managing pain related to PHN.
