Treatment Options

Typical Antipsychotics

The only medications from this group to be studied in the treatment of anorexia nervosa are chlorpromazine (Thorazine) and haloperidol (Haldol). They work by blocking specific receptors in the brain and by decreasing the release of certain chemicals. This is thought to help alleviate the anxiety anorexic individuals feel when confronted with eating.
