Ergot Derivatives
Ergot Derivatives are an option for headaches that do not respond to aspirin, acetaminophen, NSAIDs, or triptans. Ergot derivatives are made in several different dosage forms such as quickly dissolving tablets, injections, and a nasal spray. Ergot derivatives have more serious side effects and require close monitoring by a healthcare provider. Patients should be aware that this drug may be habit forming. Side effects include abdominal cramping, nausea, dizziness, and dry mouth.
