Heparin

Heparin is a medication that "thins" blood to help prevent blood clots from forming and to keep blood clots that have already formed from getting any bigger. Because it is injected into a vein (intravenously) or under the skin (subcutaneously), heparin often requires a hospital stay to monitor its effects.
