Meglitinides
Meglitinides stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin. These must be taken at the start of meals or up to 30 minutes prior to meals and should not be taken if a meal is skipped. Common side effects include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially if taken without a meal, and weight gain. They are currently only available as brand names and can be expensive which limits their usage. Drugs in the class
