Alpha-2 Agonists
Drugs in this class stimulate Alpha-2 receptors in the brain which causes a decrease in vascular (blood vessels) tone in the heart, kidneys, and in the periphery (arms and legs). This causes a decrease heart rate and peripheral resistance and results in lower blood pressure.
Medications in this class are typically very potent and are reserved for patients with resistant hypertension or hypertension that is difficult to control. Drugs in the class
