Antimetabolites
Mercaptopurine may be used to treat inflammatory bowel disease that has failed to respond to other medications. It is also helpful in reducing the dependency on corticosteroids and is used as a maintenance drug to help maintain remission. Mercaptopurine alters the immune cells? interaction with the inflammatory process.
