Anti-estrogens
Receptors are like an antenna on cells. Estrogen sends a signal to these receptors on cancer cells which cause them to continue to grow and divide. By eliminating the role that estrogens have on cancer cells, we can reduce the growth to tumors.
Raloxifene is not approved by the FDA to treat breast cancer, but has been shown to decrease the risk in post-menopausal women. In September 2007, the FDA approved raloxifene for reducing risk of breast cancer in post-menopausal women who are at high risk.
