Celiac Disease

What causes it?

The exact cause of celiac disease is unknown. Research has shown that it may have a genetic link. Experts believe the disease is actually associated with a group of genes located on chromosome 6 that regulate the body's immune response to gluten proteins.

The disease sometimes emerges after some sort of distress to the body such as pregnancy, childbirth, illness, severe emotional stress, physical injury, or surgery.
