Complications of Trichomoniasis
- Low birth weight and immaturity of infant--trichomoniasis in pregnant women may cause premature rupture of membranes and preterm delivery.
- Urinary tract infections can also occur in women with trichomoniasis infections.
- High risk of HIV exposure -The genital inflammation caused by trichomoniasis can increase a woman's susceptibility to HIV infection if she is exposed to the virus. Having trichomoniasis may increase the chance that an HIV-infected woman passes HIV to her sex partner(s).
