Health ConditionsTreatment of Stasis EczemaThe treatment of this condition is initiated by correcting the condition that causes fluid accumulation in the lower parts of the body, which includes wearing elastic support hose, taking diuretics ("water pills"), or even undergoing varicose vein surgery. Individuals may also use wet dressings to soften the thickened, but fragile, skin and to prevent infection. Elevation of the legs above the heart can improve circulation in the legs and decrease swelling. Application of a topical steroid can help reduce inflammation and oral or topical antibiotics can help treat an infection if present.
