Health ConditionsBipolar disordersBipolar disorders, formerly referred to as manic depressive disorders, involve cycles of depression and elation. Usually, bipolar disorder develops without any clear cause. The elation (or manic) phase is often marked by inappropriate social behavior, racing thoughts, and poor judgment. The depressive phase can have the same features as those of a major depression. Bipolar disorders require treatments different from those used for other mood disorders.
